My blog experience

Imagen
In general, the experience of using blog was a process that shows me a different way of communicating, a different way of sharing experiences. I fell that practicing my writing skills really help to my learning process, it really improves my abilities in this area. In the future I like to include with more importance the use of images, in my opinion this is also a way to communicate, and it’s so important than writing. And create a space for debates and opposition of opinions, ideas, points of view, for example in the comments, or in forums. I would like to write about other cultures, personal experiences and points of view about different topics like abortion, mental health, fashion, and so one. In the process the thing that I really appreciate was the experiences of my classmates, they share interesting blogs that makes me question some things and to learn more about the complex persons they are. And comment the blogs was also an interesting exercise, because makes me m...

Edward Scissorhands

Imagen
I don’t really live for movies, I enjoy them, but I prefer to read. But one of my favorite movies is “ Edward Scissorhands”, the movie tells Edward’s story from his creation, telling how a family adopt him, how he fell in love, and the tragic end that I wont tell to you in the case you haven’t seen the film. The director is the geniuos Tim Burton, and Edawrd is a young Jonny Deep, and Kim Boggs, the girl that Edward loves is portrayed by the beautiful and talented Winona Ryder. My favorite scene is very emotive. Edward is known by his talent to sculpt bushs, but at christmas he start to sculpt ice what cause a snow rain. Kim, the son of the family who adopt Edward, see through the window the snow and when she is out discover that cames from Edwards work. She start to dance under the snow with the caracteristic background song of the movie. This film is a classic, I love the visual proposal, the color palette, and the cast. You can see the Tim Buston’s hand all arrou...

Gender and Representation in the Media

Imagen
This semester I took reduced academic workload, therefore I had only six subjects, four of them electives. But one of those calls my attention. The subject is called “Gender and Representation in the Media” and the teacher is the amazing Antonella Estévez. We usually talk about the gender ideology and how it affects our lives, the way we live, how we fell in love, the way we relate, and so one. We have seen a little about perspective, representation, signification, how we create narratives, and how media creates specific narratives to show us a specific type of men and woman, in a binary way, excluding the difference and regulates all the areas of our lives. It really has blow my mind at the very beginning, then I start to understand and comprehend. I really like this subject because it has made me question many thigs about the form and the background of the gender ideology, and it has helped me to understand the correct way to communicate with gender perspective. And...

Luis Orlando Lagos

Imagen
He was a Chilean photographer that took some of the most important photos in the history of Chile. His close friends call him “Chico Lagos”, he was born in 1913 and died in 2007 at 94 years old. He was the official photographer of Salvador Allende all along his political career. Some attribute him the photos of the defense organization during the military coup d'état in 1973. One of those photos were published at The New York Times and also won the  World Press Photo  in 1974, at that moment no one knew that Lagos was the author, and the photo was published without the author’s name, but before his death the newspaper “La Naciòn” wrote about that story and how Chico Lagos didn't want to give his name for security reasons. There is a controversy around the  authorship, because some other people attribute the work to  Leopoldo Vargas another oficial photographer in the government. But beyond the controversy and the price, Lagos was an important...

Zarité

Imagen
Zarité is a slave, a prostitute, Viollett bring her at the house of Toulouse Valmorain, the master of the estate. Zarité was buyed to be the personal slave of Eugenia, the Valmorain wife. All along his life she is victim of physical and sexual violence from Valmorian. She gives brith to a boy that is taken from her… All her history is about violence and abuse, but obiously she discover love, and paradoxically freedoom through dance and music. I knew her in the Isabel Allende’s book, “The island under the sea” (La isla bajo el mar) a historical and romantic novel, set in the caribean. Gender violence and violence in general is despicted in the way her body suffer, she, like a woman and a slave it’s doubly violated. I say only her body because she always says that is free in spirit especially when she is dancing. We can see that now the situation change, we don’t hace slavery like in the eighteen century, but we stil have the violence towards women just just for be...
