Zarité is a slave, a prostitute, Viollett bring her at the house of Toulouse Valmorain, the master of the estate. Zarité was buyed to be the personal slave of Eugenia, the Valmorain wife. All along his life she is victim of physical and sexual violence from Valmorian. She gives brith to a boy that is taken from her… All her history is about violence and abuse, but obiously she discover love, and paradoxically freedoom through dance and music. I knew her in the Isabel Allende’s book, “The island under the sea” (La isla bajo el mar) a historical and romantic novel, set in the caribean. Gender violence and violence in general is despicted in the way her body suffer, she, like a woman and a slave it’s doubly violated. I say only her body because she always says that is free in spirit especially when she is dancing.
